If you’ve been reading Disney Society for awhile, then you knew this episode was coming! Back in February when I interviewed Jason Earles in regards to “Hannah Montana the Movie”, he talked about filming an episode for the Disney XD hit “Aaron Stone”.
Here’s what Jason had to say about filming the episode, which is called “Stan By Me”:
Disney Society: So, Disney is launching a new network, Disney XD. I saw that you’ll be playing Hunter in Aaron Stone. What can you tell me about that show?

Back in February when I interviewed Jason Earles in regards to “Hannah Montana the Movie”, he talked about filming an episode for the Disney XD hit “Aaron Stone”.

Here’s what Jason had to say about filming the episode, which is called “Stan By Me”:

Disney Society: So, Disney is launching a new network, Disney XD. I saw that you’ll be playing Hunter in Aaron Stone. What can you tell me about that show?

Jason: I am really excited about Aaron Stone. Before I went up there to shoot my episode, they sent me the first 3 episodes and it is so good. It’s totally a boy, action show. They’ve got martial arts fighting. They’ve got really cool computer graphics for these video games that they play. The characters are all really cool. For the episode that I did, I played Hunter who is like a cyborg, terminatortype , who’s the defender of the hero Charlie. So, I show up at school and I am there as his sidekick to help defend him basically. Then I get damaged in a battle and I totally go evil, terminator…trying to destroy Aaron Stone.

What’s so cool is that they have full teams of stunt guys out there. The fight choreography is amazing and my stunt double was really good. But they taught me all of the fight choreography and I was doing like me against three soldiers, martial arts fighters with no experience. But they did a good job at teaching me all of the stuff and I think they are going to actually use a lot of my fighting. I was so excited to shoot that episode.

I am really optimistic that this show is going to be the boy answer to Hannah Montana. I think this show is going to be huge for them.

I can’t wait to see Jason in this episode!

In "Stan By Me", Stan is replaced by Hunter, a hip teenage android who helps Aaron Stone battle The General, but ends up short circuiting and thinks his new mission is to destroy Aaron Stone. Now, Stone needs to find a way to save himself and destroy Hunter before it’s too late. Meanwhile, unbeknownst to Charlie, a Code Ten (dismantlement) has been ordered for Stan in "Aaron Stone," WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 4 (8:00-8:30 p.m., ET/PT) on Disney XD.

The newly rebranded cable channel took the place of Toon Disney and is all about targeting boys.

Their new series “Aaron Stone” has action, video games and tons of other things that boys are into. Jason Earles (who stars in one episode of the show) told me that this is the boy answer to “Hannah Montana”.

I also had the chance to interview David Lambert, who plays Jason Landers, about the show. I asked him why he thought that boys would be drawn to this series and he said, “There are many different levels in Aaron Stone, so I think the audience will all be drawn for different things, which is great because it means you can watch the same episode and pay attention to specific characters or problems within the storyline.”

So far, the series is doing really well. Check out this statistics from opening day via the Hollywood Reporter:

"Aaron Stone," posted best-ever kids 6-14 (286,000) and boys 6-14 (224,000) numbers in the hour, a triple-digit improvement versus what the channel’s predecessor, Toon Disney, averaged a year ago.

Some 6.5 million viewers and 2.6 million kids 6-14 sampled Disney XD in its first day on the air.

If you watched “Aaron Stone”, vote in Disney Society’s poll to let me know what you thought about it.

Now Charlie, the world champion of the game, is enlisted by its creator, billionaire recluse T. Abner Hall, to become the real-life version of the legendary crime-fighting avatar, Aaron Stone.

I asked David everything from how he got started in the acting business to his character in Aaron Stone. I think you are going to really enjoy this interview. And don’t forget to check out the new network, Disney XD, this Friday!

Disney Society: How long have you been in the acting business?

David: I’ve been acting for a while. I grew up doing school plays and church plays. I was always around the stage. I’d say I started acting as a career I guess, for about 3 years.

Disney Society: How did you get started in acting?

David: Well, I was always told I had a big imagination and I was pretty creative and still am, I guess haha. I also love movies, I just think it’s such a cool experience when you go to see a movie and you lose yourself in the story and the action or the humor or tragedy. I think it’s sort of a way to escape the real world temporarily and enter a dream sort of.

Read the rest below.

Disney Society: What was the first movie/TV show that you would say was your big break?

David: Well, everything I’ve done so far in film and TV have all played part in my learning experience, but I’d say that Aaron Stone has definitely been the greatest, most fun experience I’ve had so far. I’ve learned so much and I’ve grown so close to a lot of people on set. I’m a much more confident and mature actor since Aaron Stone.

Disney Society: I read that you have lived in Taiwan and England. Did you enjoy living over seas?

David: Yes! Definitely. I was pretty young when I lived in England, so i don’t really remember. But I’d love to go back sometime soon, haha. But Taiwan was an amazing experience. I’ve always loved traveling. I see it as an adventure and I love learning about new cultures and trying new things. I feel that’s the best way to live…making friends all over the world, and learning about all the
different kinds of people there are.

Disney Society: You have done quite a bit of theater and singing, would you say that’s your passion?

David: I will always have a love for theater and music but I’d say based on how I am and what my interests are, film/TV is a better fit. I will always be grateful for theater though because it really was my foundation as an actor and I would definitely do another play if I was interested enough in it. Yes music in general is a big part of my life.

Disney Society: Do you ever see yourself having a music career or are you sticking with acting for awhile?

David: Well, I have been in a band before and I have close friends that I jam with occasionally, but I think I should definitely focus on my acting and the opportunities I’m getting out of it. But who knows what the future holds?

Disney Society: I read that you were discovered at an open casting call. Tell me a little bit about how that all happened.

David: Yes, I went to an open call for my agent in Georgia and I just went in very nervous, not really sure what to do. I read a commercial they gave me there and I also did a monologue and then on the spot they wanted me to do
something else. So, I ended up saying the Pledge of Allegiance to them, haha. I remember right after I left, I kept thinking that was dumbest thing I’ve ever come up with. Why couldn’t I think of something else than the Pledge of
Allegiance? But I guess they liked me enough to give me representation and I’m still with that agent to this day.

Disney Society: How did you get the role of Jason Landers in Aaron Stone?

David: I was out in LA for pilot season. I was out there for about a month or so and I was getting auditions and stuff. But it was like our last week there and I got this audition for a Disney show called Aaron Stone. I go there and there’s a ton of kids there. Then I went in and read the scene they had and I didn’t really expect anything out of it. Then the casting director ends up giving me a sticky note with an address and she tells me to go there and do the
scene I just did for them.

So, I leave and we drive over to this address and it ends up being the Disney Channel building. I go to the top floor and I go to this room with a table full of producers. At that point I got really nervous and I was very surprised there were some many people there. So, I did the scene and I ended up coming back for about 3 more times and in those times I read with Kelly Blatz, who plays Aaron Stone and J.P Manoux, who plays Stan. It was amazing meeting them both and doing scenes with them.

Almost a month later I was in Georgia and I got a call telling me to pack my bags because I’m going to Canada to film Aaron Stone.

Disney Society: Tell me a little bit about your character in Aaron Stone.

David: I play Jason Landers and he’s the little brother of Carlie Lnders/Aron Stone. Jason is a great character. He’s very obsessed with girls haha, and there are a lot of funny situations that happen because he doesn’t
really know how to talk to them. He kind of just looks at them from across the room, haha.

He also is very big on video games, more specifically Hero Rising, which is the online game that Charlie also plays. Jason really looks up to Charlie and really enjoys the time he spends with him. Sometimes Charlie has a tough time of juggling his family, school and saving the world and Jason often is kind of disappointed or put on the back burner by Charlie.

In the end, I think Jason really has a good relationship with his brother and as the show goes on, you kind of see a change in their relationship. It kind of goes from big brother and annoying little brother, to a place where they almost act more so like friends and they share al ot of fun memories together.

Disney Society: Tell me about the show and why you think boys are going to like it.

David: Aaron Stone is about this kid Charlie Landers, who plays this video game Hero Rising. He’s somewhat of a legend in the game in other words, he’s very skilled at it. Aaron Stone is the name of Charlie’s video game character or avatar. What ends up happening is Charlie is needed to help assist the video game creator T. Abner Hall, who ends being this billionaire who needs Charlie’s help to save the world from these evil geniuses, who’s plot to take it over.

Charlie then becomes his video game character, Aaron Stone, and through out the show, you follow him through his missions and adventures. I think Aaron Atone has a lot to offer to boys. There’s the video game aspect which is always a big pull to the boys. Aaron Stone also offers a lot of action, which boys always looks for and I think we do a good job at getting the message across with all of the adventure that’s involved.

There are many different levels in Aaron Stone, so I think the audience will all be drawn for different things, which is great because it means you can watch the same episode and pay attention to specific characters or problems within the storyline.

Disney Society: Do you have any other projects in the works or is Aaron Stone keeping you plenty busy?

David: As of right now, Aaron Stone is doing a good job at keeping me busy, haha. But I’m always on the look out for new opportunities. So we’ll see what comes my way.

Disney Society: Okay, time for some completely random questions!

Disney Society: Favorite food?

David: My favorite food would have to be pizza. Very common, I know, but I love it and it’s a great food to go eat and have fun hanging with friends too.

Disney Society: Favorite place you have lived?

David: My favorite place would probably Taiwan, such an amazing place. The food there is incredible and the architecture of the buildings and the culture… it’s just all so amazing. I’d love to go back and take it all in again.

Disney Society: Favorite TV Show?

David: My favorite TV show is probably Lost. I love everything about it and it’s such an addicting show!! The cast is awesome, the writing is amazing. Plus, I kind of have a crush on Evangeline Lilly, haha.

Disney Society: Favorite Musician?

David: Hmm… that’s a tough one. I have so many favorite bands and songs by many different people. I’d say John Mayer is great one. I respect him as an artist. I mean he’s accomplished a lot and his sound is great. But I also love rock and alternative music. Like some examples of the sound would be like Modest Mouse, The Shins, Coldplay and Kings of Leon are all great bands.

Disney Society: Do you have a role model when it comes to acting?

David: I have many people that I look up to in the acting business, many inspirations. I’d say I have a real love for Tom Hanks. I feel like the man can do anything. He can make you truly laugh, cry, and everything in between. So many of his movies are in my list of classics.

I also really like Johnny Depp. I really respect him because he took a route that not many people can take. He’s very eccentric, yet he has a note of very real human emotion and he somehow connects the two, which is awesome. I love all of his work and I think he’s incredibly talented and gifted. He’s doing exactly what he should do.

Disney Society: Thanks David!!

Enjoy!

Disney Society: What was it like filming “Hannah Montana: The Movie” in Tennessee?

Jason: It was awesome! Probably the coolest part of it was, we went from taping our show, (that we shot 60 episodes on our sound stage from, it was always in that one place never out in the world), to this beautiful setting in Tennessee. So, all of these characters that we got to know intimately, you suddenly get to see where they came from, out in the world, driving cars, out on the ranch and doing big giant concerts. It was just cool to see the scale of it all change from our little TV show to a big giant movie.

Disney Society: What can you tell us about the movie and Jackson’s role in it? Do you go to TN with Miley?

Jason: My role in the movie is sort of like the show where I sort of pop in and provide a little comic relief. The premise is Jackson is going off to TN to go to college and then he sort of gets sucked into Miley’s troubles in TN a little bit.

The overall story for the movie is that Miley sort of loses her way a little bit and doesn’t really understand the distinction between Miley and Hannah Montana anymore. So, we take her back to TN to sort of make her remember where she came from. It’s kind of like a finding yourself again story. I’d say that’s what 90 percent of the movie is about and it’s a really beautifully shot, beautiful music, sweet moments, funny moments….it’s the total package for a good family movie.

Read the rest below!

Disney Society: Well, I am definitely excited about it!

Jason: Have you seen any previews from the movie?

Disney Society: Oh yes!

Jason: The thing that’s always shocking to me is that it looks like a big movie. We do a really good job on our sound stage, but it’s just a whole different scale then what we can do on the show.

Disney Society: Were there any funny incidents on the movie set?

Jason: Jackson ends up going to TN and working at a petting zoo. So, at the petting zoo, I am teaching these kids about this giant ostrich. I told the wardrobe guy, when I was doing my very first fitting before we started shooting the movie, that I thought this was all really funny, but that I hate birds. I just really hate them and I have this scene with this giant 6 foot, pre-historic, angry bird and I just don’t know what’s going to happen with that. And I said that the only thing that I don’t want to happen is I just don’t want it to bite me in the face.

The very first take with the ostrich, it bit me in the face. It was the scariest thing ever and my face welted up and they had to cover it with a bunch of makeup. But I had to shoot with this ostrich the entire day and from the very first take I was just terrified. The animal handler gave me the little leash that was around his neck and said, “Here’s the leash. Don’t pull on it.He doesn’t like it when you pull on it”, and I’m like, well what’s the point in giving it to me? You’re basically saying I have no control over what this ostrich does and he’s like, “Yeah, that’s pretty much what I’m telling you”. So, that was definitely an adventure and maybe one of my least favorite days to shoot, but then it ended up being a funny story. There’s some silly ostrich stuff in it, that works out pretty good.

Disney Society: So, ‘Dadnapped’ is coming out on February 16th. I know that you play Merv. What can you tell me about that character?

Jason: Merv is the hotel manager of the hotel that Emily, who plays Melissa, and her dad stay at. Her dad’s a writer of these really popular, sort of spy books and there’s a convention going on there, so they swing by and he’s doing a little event at the convention. Her dad gets kidnapped, Dadnapped, and I help Melissa try to track down her father. He’s [Merv] a really big, sort of silly character. He’s probably the biggest, broadest, sort of silly character in the show. He’s got this rat pack sort of a vibe about him with the big pompadour hair, the white jacket. He definitely stands out.

The thing that’s really cool is he is completely different from Jackson. I think that all of the Disney fans that watch the movie will be excited to see all of these characters from the different shows play parts that are totally different. David Henrie is different than he is in Wizards. Moises and Emily are both from my show and they both play very different roles. And even Phil Lewis who is like the butler from Suite Life – Mr. Moseby – he plays a bad guy. So, it’s a lot of familiar faces, but you see them in cool, different ways.

Disney Society: Do you have any plans for the “Dadnapped” debut?

Jason: I think that we’re going to try to get together with the different Disney people that were in it and watch the premiere together. Like Emily and Phil Lewis….we’ll see if we can get David to come out and then the guy who plays the dad, his name is George Newburn. He was in Father of the Bride and he’s a really funny guy. I think we might end up getting together with him too, with his family. We’ll all just get together, watch it and see how it turned out.

Disney Society: I saw Space Buddies and I know you do a voice of one of the dogs, Spudnick. Have you ever done a voice over movie like that before?

Jason: No, not like that. I’ve done some little animated pilots for the Disney Channel and a couple of cartoons, but that was the first time that I had done it like a full movie, with live action stuff…although it was a little different since I was playing a dog.

It was really cool. You would be amazed at how fast you can record those things. I think I went in for maybe 3 sessions, less than 8 hours, including all the revisions, to do the whole movie. And what’s crazy about the voice over stuff too, is that I never met the guy who played the Russian cosmonaut. I was never in the same room as him or any of the other voice over actors. I was never even in the same room as the director. He was always in Canada, calling in on the phone listening to the session while we were recording. So, it’s so disjointed but they do a really good job at putting it all together and you would never know how little contact we had with each other when we’re shooting it.

For the episode that I did, I played Hunter who is like a cyborg, terminator type, who’s the defender of the hero Charlie.

Disney Society: I think you’re right! I know that Disney XD’s main target audience is tween boys. Why do you think it’s important to have a channel aimed towards that age group?

Jason: I just don’t think there’s much out there for them right now. I think out of all the other shows on Disney….no offense to the other shows…our show [Hannah Montana] is the closest to something that tween boy would watch. The boys that watch our show, I think like it, but to say that their cool, they’ll say that they watch it because my sister watches it. But still, for whatever reason, there is a little bit of a stigma about some of the Disney shows when it comes to boys.

Disney XD really seems like a home for them where it’s all entertainment that is geared towards them. It’s going to be the thing that they like. Guys gravitate towards video games, action..so to have an outlet for them that’s not really offensive, bloody or super violent…but you still get the action. I think it’s going to be a network that parents will feel comfortable with their boys watching it.

Disney Society: You sure have a lot going on right now! Do you have any other projects coming up in the future?

Jason: I think that about covers it. You really did your research. But, I am excited about all of those things, and I am really proud of being a part of all of them. I have a bunch of nieces and nephews from my older brothers and I am so thrilled that I’ve been able to be a part of so many things that they can actually watch, as opposed to things that I would want them to avoid.

I hope that people will enjoy everything.

Disney Society: Oh, I think they will! The last question I have for you today is from one of your fans. She wanted to know what your long term goals are and if you see yourself acting forever?

Jason: Yeah, I really hope so. Somebody that I have always looked up to and hoped that I could have a career like would be Michael J Fox. I think that type-wise, we are sort of similar guys and we both do physical comedy. He did a really good job at bouncing back and forth between movies and TV. He also did a lot of family friendly stuff. He had just a really great career. Everybody loved watching him, it didn’t really matter what he did.

I hope that 30 years from now people will say the same thing about me and my career. If I could have a career like that, it would be fantastic.

Disney Society: Well, I sure hope you continue with acting and I can’t wait to see what else you do in the future!
