College Road Trip DVD Review

July 23, 2008 by Julie Bonner

Last week I had the chance to review the College Road Trip DVD. Overall, the movie did not get good reviews so I was really curious if I would even like the movie. Guess what? I loved it! Sure, it wasn’t a major blockbuster hit, but overall I thought it was a really funny movie with a great message.

Raven-Symone and Martin Lawrence had great chemistry as father and daughter. Lawrence was awesome as the ultimate over-protective parent and Raven did a great job at being overwhelmingy annoyed by him. The two went through quite a lot together and in the end, Lawrence learned to let go a little and Raven was able to go to the college of her dreams.

Raven Symone is Not Just a Kid Anymore

May 19, 2008 by Julie Bonner

Most of us know Raven-Symone from her funny and crazy antics on “That’s So Raven”. She’s also been known for being that sweet, cute little kid from The Cosby Show.

Well, Raven is ready to graduate from that child role into a mature adult and is setting her sights on her latest album. She is working towards changing that child star perception of her and she believes she can do that through her music.

Raven’s fourth studio album includes the song “Double Dutch Bus” from her recent movie “College Road Trip”. She also dug a little deep and into her personal life for the song “Love Me of or Leave Me”. It’s about a tough past relationship. We all know Raven as the funny, upbeat girl but do any of us really know much about her personal life? No and she prefers it that way.

I don’t talk about my personal life a lot, because it’s not for everybody’s knowledge,” she said. “But that is what grows people up. Even when I talk about it, I get antsy” the star added.

For the first time, Raven opens up about her personal life on “Hollywood Life” and she talks about the struggles of growing up in Hollywood. The Hollywood life can be very hard for young girls who are told and start to believe that they have to be a certain size.

There are so many girls who are trying to be famous, and trying to conform to a style or body type,” Raven-Symone said. “But they are fine just the way they are.

I am looking forward to seeing Raven break away from the child she once was and now into an all-out success as an adult in the music business. And of course, I hope she’ll do some more movies!

Raven-Symone Wants to BE Disney

March 17, 2008 by Julie Bonner

The Los Angeles Times recently sat down with Disney star Raven-Symone and they had a very nice chat. Raven arrived at the interview sans an entourage, meaning no body guards, no publicist, no one - just the delightful Raven-Symone alone.
Raven let the reporter in on her plans of world domination:

“‘I want to have a record label and a licensing company,’ declares Raven-Symoné. ‘I want to have a publishing company and a management company where I can launch all kinds of artists. I want to do everything.’

After a brief pause, Raven-Symoné delivers the bottom line, without a trace of irony: ‘I want to be Disney.’”

If there is one Disney star who seems to have her head on straight, it’s Raven. She is very content in being in her own skin. She has no interest in re-making over her image. She says “I’m not trying to be something I’m not. I like where I am. I don’t have a problem with it.

If you are wondering why you don’t see paparazzi pictures of Raven clubbing it up, it’s because she doesn’t.

When it comes to the Hollywood club scene, Raven-Symoné not only flies under the radar, she’s not even a blip on the screen – a factor that makes her star power and appeal to tween audiences shine more brightly. It’s all part of her calculated plan to nurture her fans and maintain a devotion to her craft while creating more opportunities for herself and her brand.”

Raven has a plan and nothing seems to be able to distract her from the plan.

I’m not in this to be a celebrity,” she says. “I’m in this to work.”

College Road Trip Gets Not So Good Reviews

March 10, 2008 by Julie Bonner

Aw man, I don’t like reporting this kind of news that has to do with Raven-Symone, but a girl’s gotta give you the true scoop! So, what is the news about Raven-Symone’s movie “College Road Trip“? Not good, not good at all.

I read the first few reviews that came out and they were pretty bad, but I waited and waited hoping someone would say it was one of the best movies they’ve ever seen. Unfortunately that hasn’t happened and only die hard Raven fans are saying it was “pretty good”.

Everyone else is saying that it was just bad and that’s all there is to it.

The latest Disney family comedy, “College Road Trip,” isn’t a very good movie for one simple reason: bad casting. Now, I know what you’re thinking, that’s what Disney gets for hiring Martin Lawrence. But Lawrence, star of the “Big Mama’s House” movies, is actually one of the flick’s bright spots. No, the biggest problem for “College Road Trip” rests in the performance of the flick’s other star, Disney channel phenom Raven-Symone.

She’s awful.

Terrible.

Absolutely horrendous.

Ouch!

And I’m not even going to discuss the whole “Double Dutch Bus” thing. It’s what nightmares are made of.

Ouch again!

Here’s a little bit of good news…

Now, Symone fans and young kids may find the flick fun throughout. They’re the target audience for this movie, so I fully understand the need for all involved to focus on her. That’s what the audience presumably wants. So, if you are a big fan of Symone, you’re going to go see the movie regardless of what I or anyone else says.

That’s exactly right and that’s what Disney was banking on - Raven-Symone fans - and there are a lot of you out there. I’ve decided to just wait for the DVD and save my $8 or $9 bucks.

Did any of you see it? Tell me what you thought!

Here’s the College Road Trip trailer one last time for those of you who haven’t seen it.

Raven-Symone on The Big Idea

March 6, 2008 by Julie Bonner

The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch is one of my favorite shows. I was watching it last night and there he was, talking to Raven-Symone! It was a great interview. They were calling her the $400 million dollar woman.

Raven has some how managed to stay “grounded”, as Donny called it, even with all of her fame and huge success. Donny also predicted that her new movie, “College Road Trip”, will bring in $40 million on opening night. It’s a movie that the whole family can enjoy. College Road Trip opens this weekend.

Enjoy the video clip!
