Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean Online Unleashes Massive New Melee Feature
December 1, 2009 by Julie Bonner
Today (December 1), Disney Online announced the addition of an expansive new battle system to its popular online world, Pirates of the Caribbean Online (www.PiratesOnline.com). Players can now fight against the game’s main villain, Jolly Roger, as he leads an army of undead soldiers onto the beaches of Port Royal, intent on capturing and burning the Governor’s Mansion on their quest to rule the islands. Players must band together to fight off his minions as Jolly Roger himself joins the battle for a thrilling fight that players can win or lose, depending on their numbers and tactics.
“It was our goal to build an epic battle where hundreds of pirates can fight together against Jolly Roger and feel like they’re repelling a massive invasion. Fighting Jolly Roger’s army requires skill and teamwork to win, so it also helps form tremendous bonds within our player community,” says Jason Yeung, the online world’s Creative Director.
The online forums are buzzing with player excitement. You can check out all of the player feedback here.
Here’s one amazing picture from the game.
Based on the hit movie series Pirates of the Caribbean, this online world gives players a chance to become the most notorious pirate of all. Sailing your own vessel and fighting other players in ship-to-ship combat are some of the unique features that set this virtual community apart. With the addition of the land combat invasion system, piratesonline.com is establishing itself as the premier pirate experience in the online world universe. Players can also create and customize their own pirate, captain their own ship, and assemble a crew of their fellow rogues in an effort to rule the Caribbean. Along the way, players will interact with characters made popular by the films, like Jack Sparrow, Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann, and Captain Barbossa, and will also encounter a host of new characters and enemies unique to the online world.
Pirates of the Caribbean Online, developed and published by Disney Online, is rated E10+ and features lower PC and Mac system requirements than most other virtual worlds in this genre, allowing for easier access to a broader audience of players.
Players can download the virtual world directly and access additional information at www.PiratesOnline.com. A portion of the virtual world is available for free, and players can get unlimited access for a monthly subscription fee of $9.95.
