October 26, 2009 by Julie Bonner
Disney’s Tinker Bell was named “Honorary Ambassador of Green” on October 25, 2009, by United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, Kiyo Akasaka at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Tinker Bell was joined by voice cast Mae Whitman (Tinker Bell), Raven Symone (Iridessa) (check out Disney Society’s interview with Raven here.), Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure director Klay Hall, producer Sean Lurie and UN delegates as they celebrated the world premiere of Tinker Bell and the Lost Treasure, which arrives on DVD & Blu-ray on October 27th.
I love this picture of Tinker Bell accepting her award. So cute!
“We’re delighted Tinker Bell has agreed to be our Honorary Ambassador of Green,” said Mr. Akasaka. “This beloved animated character can help us inspire kids and their parents to nurture nature and do what they can to take care of the environment.”
Since its earliest days, The Walt Disney Company has sought to inspire a love of nature and spirit of conservation through its storytelling, and the environment is an underlying theme of the Tinker Bell movies, told through the magical world of Fairies, Pixie Hollow, where nature is nurtured. Tinker Bell is a natural ambassador of Green, living consistently in harmony with the environment, her appointment, as Honorary Ambassador of Green, is a great opportunity for this beloved character to play a key role in inspiring kids.
