Disney Society’s Exclusive Interview with Lucas Till of “Hannah Montana: The Movie”

This afternoon, I interviewed Lucas Till from “Hannah Montana: The Movie”, which is coming to theaters on April 10, 2009. Lucas plays Travis Brody, Miley Stewart’s old friend and possible love interest in the film.

Lucas has such a great personality and was really easy to talk to. He’s funny, smart, down-to-earth and was just over-all so much fun to talk to. I was already excited about seeing him in the movie and now I am about 10 times more excited after having talked to him.

Disney Society: How long have you been in the acting business?

Lucas: I was 10 when I started, so it’s been 8 years. I started out with commercials and print. I did my first movie when I was about 12.

Disney Society: What was the first television show/movie you worked on?

Lucas: It was a very small movie called “The Adventures of Ociee Nash” and I played a very small role in that one. I actually played the bully of the main girl. (I told Lucas that I have seen this movie and that I am going to have to go rent it again because I didn’t know that he was in it!)

Disney Society: Anne from Norway wants to know how you landed the role of Travis Brody in Hannah Montana The Movie?

Lucas: Well first, I want to know how Anne from Norway knows who I am. (I told Lucas that everyone knows who he is, lol!!)

I sent a tape in because my agent said “Hey, you need to audition for this”. So, I sent in the tape. I kind of did it to spite her because I was telling her that I wasn’t going to get this role. It’s just not going to happen.

So, I went in just to please her and then ended up getting a call back to go to Nashville, TN to audition. Then I came back home and a couple of days later, I got this call that they wanted to fly me out to L.A. and screen test with Miley [Cyrus]. I did the audition and got the part.

It was really a cool experience.

Disney Society: Tell me a few things about your character, Travis, without revealing too much about the movie of course!

Lucas: He’s an old childhood friend of Miley’s. She comes back to Tennessee and he goes and rescues her horse. He comes back to find that it’s Miley and then they become friends and maybe a little something more. But, you’ll just have to wait and see.

Disney Society: Did you know how to horseback ride before filming the movie?

Lucas: No, not at all. But I don’t know why I hadn’t done it before because it was so much fun. Any chance I have to ride horses now, I take the opportunity.

Disney Society: Givanna wants to know what was it like working with Miley Cyrus?

Lucas: You can’t describe the experience of working with Miley in one word. It was fun all the time. It was crazy and unpredictable all the time. It was just a good, overall experience. She is constantly doing something entertaining, whether she means to or not.

Disney Society: N’keeyah from Los Angeles wants to know what the best part of working on Hannah Montana was?

Lucas: Well, this answer changes every time I’m asked. I think it was the fact that it was a big movie, but it was close enough to home that my family could come visit me on set, which was pretty awesome.

I also got to go back and graduate high school because it was so close. (Lucas graduated from Kell High School in Marietta, GA.)

Disney Society: Nathalie from New Jersey wants to know what was the craziest or funniest moment you had while filming this movie?

Lucas: The funniest moment was when Miley was horseback riding once. She can ride a trot real well, much better than I can. But when it got any faster than that, she would say “Oh, I am great at riding horses” because she’s really competitive.

We got to a scene where we had to go a little faster than a trot and that’s where I’m really comfortable at. I love doing that. So we start going faster and she’s trying not to let everyone know that she’s panicking. She starts falling off the side of the horse and yelling “Oh, I can’t get back on”. She’s completely on one side of the horse. I don’t know how she didn’t fall off.

Disney Society: Tatiana from Rhode Island wants to know if you have any other Disney projects coming up?

Lucas: No, I do not. None with Disney.

Disney Society: You play Larry in "The Spy Next Door", are you currently filming that movie?

Lucas: I actually just finished that movie before the holidays.

Disney Society: What can you tell me about your character in "The Spy Next Door"?

Lucas: It’s a very different character from Travis in “Hannah Montana”. He’s a Russian spy and that’s pretty much all I can say.

Disney Society: Now for some random questions. What is your favorite food?

Lucas: My favorite food is beef jerky. I was just eating that about 5 minutes ago.

Disney Society: What is your favorite color?

Lucas: I don’t really have one. I don’t understand how you could have one because there’s so many different colors, why would you want to limit yourself to just one?

Disney Society: Here’s the biggest question of them all…Are you single?

Lucas: Yes, yes I am single.
