Disney Society Interviews Kevin Schmidt of “Princess Protection Program”

January 22, 2009 by Julie Bonner

Keviin Schmidt I had the honor of interviewing Kevin Schmidt, who stars in the upcoming Disney Channel Original Movie “Princess Protection Program”. Kevin was gracious enough to answer quite a few questions for me. Thanks Kevin!

First, let me give you a little background on Kevin. In 2005, he played Henry Baker in “Cheaper By the Dozen”. That is one of my favorite movies and I’ve seen it about half a dozen times!

He’s had guests appearances on shows like Numb3ers, Without a Trace and CSI: NY. He also plays Noah Newman on the soap opera “The Young and the Restless”.

He is definitely a talented and very experienced actor! You can see his long list of movies and television shows that he has appeared in here.

Kevin answered questions for me about “Princess Protection Program”, “The Alyson Stoner Project”, as well as several other things I was curious about.

Disney Society: Tell me a little about your character in the Disney Channel Original Movie "Princess Protection Program".

Kevin: I play "Bull" in PPP. My character’s name is the root word for they personality trait he channels – a bully. He makes life in high school for Demi and Selena as difficult as possible.

Disney Society: How did you get the roll of Bull?

Kevin: I’ve been an actor in LA for ten years now, so its safe to say this wasn’t my first audition for Disney. I had all but given up on working for the Mouse when the timing finally hit!

Read the rest of the interview below.

Disney Society: What was your favorite part of filming PPP?

Kevin: We had a fantastic and talented cast and crew! Plus Puerto Rico isn’t a bad place for a day at the office.

Disney Society: Was that your first time in Puerto Rico and would you want to go back there again?

Kevin: It was my first time on the island and I’d go back in a heartbeat! Selena’s shooting the Wizards movie there, I might have to have schedule a visit…

Disney Society: From the YouTube videos I have seen, you seem to have gotten along well with the cast. What was it like working with Selena Gomez, Demi Lovato and Samantha Droke?

Kevin: Demi and Selena are the next power houses in this business. Demi’s gift is her music, she shines on stage. Selena is the next leading woman. She’s in love with "acting" and plans to make a solid career out of it. Miss Droke and I go way back, friends for six years. I had a best friend with me on the journey the second we took off from LA.

Disney Society: Were there any funny moments while shooting the film that stick out in your mind?

Kevin: We had all sorts of fun adventures! From golfing in the rain, to sunburns and dinners in Old San Juan. The entire shoot was an amazing experience.

Disney Society: When the movie debuts on the Disney Channel, do you have any special plans like a viewing party or will you just be chilling at home?

Kevin: Hopefully Disney decides to have a big premiere! I love when the fans can come out and meet us.

Disney Society: You are the director/writer for The Alyson Stoner Project. Tell me a little about how that whole thing got started.

Kevin: The ASP came from Alyson and my dream to become creators. Got our families together and created an original concept that could inspire the future generations. What came to life was a "Dance Instructional, Musical Fitness Revolution!". We’re self-distributing it online @ AlysonStonerProject.com – Look for it late February!

Disney Society: How did you and Alyson Stoner meet?

Kevin: We met as brother and sister on "Cheaper By The Dozen".

Disney Society: I have seen you on The Young and the Restless as Noah Newman. What’s it like working on a soap opera and how is it different than your Princess Protection Program experience?

Kevin: The differences are night and day! Y&R has been the most incredible re-learning experience of my life. It’s teaching me a different way to utilize the skills I’ve picked up along my journey. We shot five to six pages a day on the PPP movie shoot. We shoot an entire EPISODE of Y&R in a day – fifty plus pages!

Disney Society: Tell me something about you that your fans may not know?

Kevin: Positive action is what makes me tick. Passion as my guide and story-telling as my vessel, I’ll be in this business forever. I’ve found what I love and the support from fans is what will keep me here.

Disney Society: Do you have any other movies/projects coming up?

Kevin: Staying busy on Y&R. The "ASP" spawned a line of fitness DVD’s set for production in March. Getting to work on season two of my web-series "Poor Paul" – immature audiences only! Creating a cookbook with my acting / musician friends. Two scripts I wrote in development, "Yeller" as Psyc / Thriller and "Valley Life" a wacky comedy. New ideas everyday!

Wow! He is a busy guy. Check out some of his latest interviews, etc. on YouTube:
