No More “Narnia” for Disney

January 5, 2009 by Julie Bonner

chronicles-of-narnia-dvd-01 Disney has made the decision to not co-finance the third movie in the “The Chronicles of Narnia” franchise.

“We are no longer going forward with the movie due to budgetary considerations and other logistics,” a Disney spokeswoman said. She wouldn’t comment on the decision to cut ties with Walden and what was envisioned as a 7-part series.

The second film in the series, “The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian” did not do as well as the first film at the box office. The first Narnia film brought in $745 million, while the second film only brought in $419 million.

Walden had cut the budget significantly on the third Narnia film, “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader”, so Disney’s bail out surprises some. It’ll be interesting to see what happens with this third film, if it happens at all.

Wait a minute, please tell me that there’s still going to be a 3rd movie. I LOVE Narnia and I will be very upset if they are going to stop makinf Narnia forever.

  2. Nicky says:

What, so Disney’s pulling out cause they didnt make enough money?

  3. Julie Bonner says:

@Katie – I am not sure what the fate of the third Narnia film is. Maybe Walden will try to find someone else to co-finance it. I hope there will be a third one. I love the Narnia series!
@Nicky – Yep, it’s a money thing. With how the economy is right now, all movie studios are having to be very picky about which big budget movies they make. It stinks.
