New Disney Channel to Arrive in Russia

The Walt Disney Co. and Media-One Holdings Ltd. announced today that they will be bringing the Disney Channel to Russia. The companies are forming a joint venture and will offer family-oriented television on about 30 stations.

The Disney Channel will be predominately free (still on cable in some bigger cities) and will also offer original Russian programming.

“Russia is an extremely important market for Disney and this new Disney channel is a great way for us to expand our brand and business,” said Disney President and CEO Robert Iger.

The Disney Channel will air in Russia sometime in 2009.
