Demi Lovato Can Thank Gal Pal Selena Gomez for Disney Gig

According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, Selena Gomez helped her BFF Demi Lovato land her roles on the Disney Channel. The article is about Demi’s rise to fame.

The article states that Demi’s family’s desire to get into the Disney empire, was as great as Disney’s desire to find some new talent. Demi’ mom said, “Take it from someone who tried for eight years to make it, once you get in you’re thankful.”

Now Disney has the whole image that its stars are manufactured. People think that they want to turn everyone into an exact replica of Hilary Duff or Miley Cyrus. Demi says that’s just not true.

She says, “Disney has an image that’s not the reality. Artists aren’t as manufactured as they appear.”

So how did Demi’s friend Selena get snatched up by Disney? Demi’s mom, who is a former Dallas Cowboys cheerleader, took both Demi and Selena to a talent search in Austin, TX organized by Disney. The execs noticed Demi, but they tapped Selena instead. They were looking for an adorable Hispanic girl and Demi’s mom said that Selena was just what they were looking for. So, Demi went home where she continued to act and sing.

In 2006, Demi attended another Disney talent search. They cast her for the short series “As the Bell Rings“, but Selena has a big part in Demi landing the Camp Rock role, as well as some others. During a break from filming “Wizards of Waverly Place” Selena called Demi out of the audience and had her belt out a version of Christina Aguilera’s ‘Ain’t No Other Man’. That got the Disney execs attention!

Now Demi not only landed the role as Mitchie on Camp Rock, but also Princess Protection Program (alongside Selena), Welcome to Mollywood and a contract with Hollywood Records. WOW! What a great article.

    Demi deserves it shes an amazing actress just like her friend Selena. Its funny to think how they were friends and now they both ended up on Disney channel. What one will do to help a friend. Its great Selena did everything she could to help Demi Lavato it shows true friendship and I think its sweet!

    Do you know if any shows are looking for extras or anything from 12 year olds? Expecially from wizards of waverly place. Thats the show I’ve wanted to be on from its premire. Or do you know where they hold casting auditions? If I could find out where that would be great

    I really love to act and sing!I always wanted to start on somthing small!On T.V i….Was wondering if you can get back to me on my email! Because i would love to start a little show like as the bell rings but a didnt short show!And then progress!I am not an old adult but if you can please concider me on Disney Channel!And im not such a crazyyy fan who is just trying this to meant others i really want to aceahve my goal!

    listenn i really really really want to be an actress and disney channel has inspired me from the very start.Demi & Selena are so inspirational & are doing such a brilliant job & i would luv to folllow in their footstebs because they are so talented & even when i was 3 i remember watching them on Barney & not even knowing who they were but thinking ”i wanna be them!!” & this is really hard cuz i live in Ireland & nothing ever happens hear kind of audition wise because obviously theres no irish disney channel but i watch english dc all the time & it would be my dream to go on one of the shows especially wizards of waverley place because its amazin! and im so not doing this to meet all the cast i really really want to be an actress.ive been in stageschool for 9 years & it would be my dream to get myself started with an audition. i know it would be hard for you 2 do anything for me when im in irealnd but let me know if you no any irish auditions
