Angelina Jolie Upset About Disney Princesses
Reportedly Angelina Jolie is upset that there is not a Disney Princess that is African. Her daughter’s Zahara and Shiloh are starting to get into the whole Disney Princess theme, and Angelina thinks there needs to be more diversity in Disney.
She says, “Even the color of the children in the cartoon matters. There still isn’t a Disney princess that’s African and it’s very difficult because our daughters’ getting into princesses right now and it upsets me.”
I think Angelina will be pleased to know that there is a new movie coming out on December 25, 2009 entitled “The Princess and the Frog” and it’s about Princess Tiana who lives in New Orleans French Quarter during the jazz age. The princess is African and Anika Noni Rose is doing the voice of Tiana.
You can view a picture of “The Princess and the Frog” here.

True Disney now have an African princess but this is just the start , they need to represent the ethnically diverse population we have in this world more. Every child needs a positive image of their culture to have something that they can relate to.

I am thrilled that Disney has finally come out with an African American Princess! I remember writing a letter to Robert Iger, four years ago, asking for a African American Disney Princess. However, I have to say that the way Jolie slandered Disney makes me mad. Do your research before you make bogus allegations. It only makes you look like an idiot. No more Jolie movies for me for a while. Anyways, I love Disney and am so proud and excited to see them moving in positive directions.

This is not just the start. This not the first time Disney has shown diversity in their heroines. Look at Princess Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mulan. Now with Tiana there will be someone for just about everyone.
